For this post, I’m reposting an old tip on troubleshooting workflows with some new steps at the end for the Unified Interface. Unfortunately, Microsoft has not added the ability to view background processes and process sessions from a single record in the new UI yet, but hopefully this will be added in a future release.
If you’re unable to run Flows and background or real-time workflows from the new unified interface, fear not! The fix is simple. You’ll need to update a setting in the Dynamics admin center. Read More
As more and more organizations transition to the new user interface, you might find that some options for custom portals that were previously found in the Contact entity menu are missing or throwing errors. If you need to fix or add the “Change Password” or “Create Invitation” menu buttons, keep reading for a simple fix. Read More
As I use the new PowerApps designer more and more, I’m finding small touches here and there that really enhance the customization process (especially with larger-scale tasks). One of these minor-but-nice features is that you can easily tell what fields have been modified and created during your current session. By current session, I mean after you begin editing or creating fields, but before you hit “Save entity”. Read More
Previously, I wrote a blog post on creating a “Top Opportunities” system chart, but you need to be an Administrator to follow those exact instructions. Below, you’ll find quick instructions to create a personal chart. The chart editor has not changed much (yet), so you can follow the instructions linked above to create the example “Top Opportunities” chart–even if you’re not an administrator.

Any time you need to delete a field or workflow, you’ll want to check for dependencies and make the necessary changes to remove those dependencies. Check out this post from 2018 to learn how to “show dependencies” for a field or workflow. To show dependencies for a workflow, open the workflow and select “Show Dependencies” at the top of the window.
If you are starting to use Flows, this is an important (and quick) tip! If you use an automated flow with Dynamics and set the trigger to “when a record is created” or “when a record is updated”, you MUST first enable Change Tracking for the entity that will be triggering the Flow. Without this, when you attempt to run or test the flow, it will fail.

Did you know that you can add a wait condition to a workflow? This can be particularly helpful if the workflow is complex. Sometimes the system can get ahead of itself and cause workflows to fail if too many actions are being performed too quickly. For example, if a record needs to be created, then populated to a lookup field (if you created a contact record then updated a lookup on the Opportunity with that new contact, all in a single workflow), you’ll want to use this tip!

It’s make.powerapps.com.
Using the classic interface, it takes a 4 clicks to open the solution and entity customization window:
Settings->Customizations->Customize the System->”Experience the new way to customize the system”
Navigating using the new UI menu is even worse at 6 clicks. This might not sound like a lot, but the time spent waiting for windows to load adds up. Thankfully, accessing the solution customization area has never been easier. Please note that you must be a Dynamics 365 administrator or customizer to edit the solution.

With Release Wave 2 just a few days away from general release, I wanted to take a moment to highlight one of the features rolling out to the new UI: Improve or simplify most common sales workflows. Not a lot of detail! If you dig into this further you’ll see the following details:
- Make the Documents tab visible in the main form for Contact, Opportunity, Lead, and Account entities.
- Enhance the Opportunity form user experience.
- Support reparenting of products and the addition of properties at the product level (supported on both the legacy web client and the Unified Interface).
- While defining a product catalog, admins can update the parent of a product, bundle, or family in cases where products need to be realigned. Additionally, they can add properties directly at the product or bundle level.
Most of our clients heavily utilize the “related documents” feature that already exists in Dynamics, so moving the Documents tab to the main form is a very welcome change!
