Salesforce.com – Data Loader Functionality with Salesforce Workbench

By June 30, 2017No Comments

Another function of the workbench is to do imports much like you would with Data Loader.  It’s a bit more “programmer friendly” than data loader (which is more “standard user” friendly) in my opinion, but nevertheless a keeper.

Go ahead and login to the workbench like before.  This time, go to the data menu though….  Here you can insert, update, upsert, or delete.  If not familiar with these, you may want to stop as you can do some serious damage to your database.

We’re going to do an insert, which is an upload of new records.  Since it’s a bulk import, I’m going to choose “lead” for object, then “from file” where I choose my file.

Click Next to move forward to the mapping of the fields.  Here’s a tip, go ahead name the column headers of your import the same as Salesforce labels and it will do a lot of the mapping for you.

You can even use the lookup tool on the right to match values to other sf ids (again, this is where it gets a bit trickier.  Go ahead and click “map fields” to lock it in.  Confirm the insert and away you go!
